Imagine it. The kids are at their grandmother's or at camp. You finally get to see your home through different eyes. You can do anything. So that there's no hard feelings!

You look into your child's room and you already know what you would improve. They don't use these toys at all, so they can go into the cupboard or straight into the bin. You don't like the colour of the walls anymore and you'd change the furniture too.

Before you roll up your sleeves, stop for a moment and talk to your child. Little surprises are great, but a major makeover could be really stressful for the kids. What is utter rubbish to you can be the most important treasure for a small personality.

Before you take action, try to talk to your children about it all.  Don't be afraid to involve them in the process itself, it's a great opportunity to develop their imagination and for them to express their own needs and wishes. It is, after all, their space. Do not try to project your desires and unfulfilled wishes upon them.

The organisers of the About Home project advise:

  • Talk to your  little partner about what can and cannot change, what is untouchable.
  • Together with older children, put aside things you can't touch.
  • Talk to them about colours, you like pink, but that doesn't mean your daughter loves it.
  • This is a very intimate part, and it takes a lot of parental patience, no judgement. With phrases like “You can't be serious about keeping this box,” you're really not going to help anything, much less strengthen your relationship with each other.

Hold on to your agreements without exception. Sometimes your own child surprises you and eliminates the item itself, at the end of the whole process.

I have little time and I want a big change

A trick that works every time - magical fabrics. The fewer patterns the better, bet on simplicity, v , in both colours and patterns.

Replace curtains, carpet pieces, pillowcases or linen. The new room is ready in a jiffy. At the same time, it is a great opportunity to wash pillows and quilts. You will avoid problems with mites and allergens and, moreover, in summer weather everything dries quickly.

You can also get rid of bed linen that no longer makes you happy and replace it with, for example, satin children's bed linen, ,which wicks away sweat, or percal, which cools. Treat your children to quality. A child's skin is very sensitive, and that is why quality materials come first. . A bed wrapped in linen made from natural materials will survive any bedroom accident and last for years of use.

You can then pack it in your children's gear  bthe future, perhaps for their children.

detsky-pokoj-leto-povleceniI have more time, and I want to redo the room from the ground up.

Whether you're converting a toddler room into the school room, making a  school room, making a one-bedroom for two, or just want to make your child's wish come true, keep a few rules in mind.

What do the Queens of Order advise?

For a children's room it is necessary to define individual zones: playing, study, dressing, resting.

The play area should be the largest up to the age of younger school children. It gives the child space for their own creativity and independence.

The study zone bshould be ideally located under a window. Good lighting conditions are essential. The child should not be distracted at the work table. Neither the toys nor the bed belong in the field of vision of a small student, that is, if the space offers this possibility.

For the dressing area we recommend creating a combination of drawers and cupboards and placing it close to the entrance door.

If changing the room is still in process, think about colour. Suppress your desires and discuss with  your child what to put on the walls.

  • Rooms crowded with toys need to be visually calmed down. Choose delicate pastel colours that are not irritating. In  a room full of colours and patterns, more sensitive children may have difficulty concentrating or even.  falling asleep
  • In order to make them sleep  as if they are wrapped in cotton, get them a quality mattress and proper bedding. Don't worry about feather fillers, their durability and maintenance will exceed your expectations and your child won't wake up sweaty anymore.
  • Choose neutral, simple bedding that will grow with  vaším your child. Bet on everlasting polka dots or elegant stripes. Leave Elsa and Spiderman in  the bookshelf.
  • And since we touched on the subject of reading, play around and sort your children's books by colour. You will see that they will appreciate it and, moreover, they will enjoy the rainbow and they will be able to maintain it.

So, shall we venture into the children's kingdoms together?
