Ten Commandments of the Bedroom
The bedroom is not a pigeon coop, and in order to live and sleep beautifully in it, it is good to follow some basic rules. With a little bit of insight and a little bit of seriousness, we have written a kind of a bedroom decalogue, which of course you can hang above your bed, but maybe it is enough if you just think about it and send it to someone who especially needs to think about it!
1/ We go to bed first and foremost to sleep!
And, of course, watch Netflix, eat, relax, lounge with your partner... We don't want to forbid anything, after all, we act as promoters of "living in the sheets", because we don't make a big deal of it and we know that some things can simply be washed away, but unfortunately, we have to say it out loud... It's much, much better for your sleep and the quality of your sleep if you really just think of your bed as a place to sleep.
2/ A mobile phone is an alarm clock at most, and even then, think twice
If you're scrolling through your social networks before bed and then waking up to find out what's new while everyone else is asleep, you've got a problem. You probably know that, but we thought it was important to tell you. Try to read a book before going to bed, it's a bit of a cliché, but falling asleep will be much better. And a little tip from us - if you use your phone as an alarm clock, try to keep it away from your head. You'll minimise negative radiation, but more importantly, you'll have to take a few steps to turn off your alarm in the morning and you'll be awake in no time!
3/ Dressing for the outdoors is for the outdoors, who here doesn't understand that?
Do you come home and crash on your bed? Sometimes the situation calls for it, but remember when you were on the metro, sitting on the ground in the park, wiping your hands on your pants... Let's agree not to do that from now on, okay? All the dirt from your clothes is suddenly on your skin and nobody wants that.
4/ Hug and fall to your side!
Now, we're on a little bit of thin ice, but one day we want to create awareness, so we have to take risks. You may think there's nothing better than falling asleep in your partner's arms, but we think just about anything else is better. The right position is extremely important for a good night's sleep, but if you're a bit stifled, your arm is tight and your neck hurts, we dare say you won't be fully rested in the morning. So, we recommend to cuddle up for a quick goodnight and then each look for their halves for your ideal sleeping position... And in the morning you can look forward to seeing each other again!
5/ Are you the open window type?
People have always been divided into two halves-those who open windows and those who don't... But we would urge you to air out your bedroom. Frequently. Not only for you and your sleep, but also for your down feather fillers!
6/ Television is a killer…
…for sleep, romance and everything else. We're going to be a little strict here. Having a television in the bedroom is a bad idea. No exceptions. Generally, we do not recommend watching anything in bed or on your computer before going to bed. And if you really want or need to work, we recommend getting glasses with a blue light filter.
7/ Bed and enough!
Okay, now we're overreacting, but seriously. Look around your bedroom and honestly think about whether there is too much furniture, items, flowers or other unnecessary things. Get rid of anything that could impede optimal airflow, trap dust or just serve to accumulate more stuff. Is there really anyone who has taken off the piles of clothes from that exercise bike and actually ridden it?
8/ Are you already farting in front of one another?
Congratulations. But wouldn't it be better to maintain some decorum in the bedroom after all? Of course, all of the above applies to both of you, but there is an uncomfortable truth to be told. We know you're only human, but try correcting your bodily functions in the bedroom. It'll be a nicer place for both of you. Similarly, always try to go to bed clean and showered.
9/ The ideal bedroom
Think of your bedroom as a whole. Is it spacious enough? Airy? Just the right size? Painted in a way that gives you peace and does not disturb you in any way? Actually, this is the most important. Unfortunately, if you sleep on a mattress that is too thin or your bed is too small, air ventilation and removing the television will not improve your sleep.
10/ Keep the bed and bedroom clean!
This is also very important! By the way, we have an article about this. Try to change your bed linen at least once a week, dust, ventilate and generally pamper your bedroom!
Sleep is a very important part of our lives, so we'd love it if our light-hearted ten commandments could guide you to make some small changes.
